You should build the sybperl code with perl 5.8.x. It's pretty easy - you
need to have the Sybase env. variables set, and then run perl Makefile.PL
in the sybperl-2.xx directory and follow the prompts...

Actually,
I am getting this here....
!/usr/local/bin/sybperl5_6
use lib '/usr/local/lib/perl_5_6_1/site_perl/sun4-solaris/auto/DBI';
require '/usr/local/lib/perl_5_6_1/site_perl/sun4-solaris/DBI.pm';
with results of:
ld.so.1: sybperl5_6: fatal: relocation error: file
/usr/local/lib/perl_5_6_1/site_perl/sun4-solaris/auto/DBI/DBI.so: symbol
Perl_get_sv: referenced symbol not found
Killed
However the dates on the 5.6 and 5.8 libraries look very similar. I don't
normally do the perl builds round here...
Can you tell me how I build sybperl with perl 5.8 with dynamic linking.
Sorry for the noobie question, but I have been out of the system
configuation game for a while.

That simply means that your DBI binary is not compatible with your sybperl
binary - it looks like your sybperl binary is a perl 5.6 binary with
Sybase::DBlib and/or Sybase::CTlib linked in. You could rebuild sybperl
for perl5.8 with dynamic linking and then use this and DBI together.

Michael,
I guess this is a very simplistic approach...but...
#!/usr/local/bin/sybperl5_6
use lib '/usr/local/lib/perl5.8.0/site_perl/sun4-solaris/auto/DBI';
require '/usr/local/lib/perl5.8.0/site_perl/sun4-solaris/DBI.pm';
# use DBI;
and I am getting:
ld.so.1: sybperl5_6: fatal: relocation error: file
/usr/local/lib/perl5.8.0/site_perl/sun4-solaris/auto/DBI/DBI.so: symbol
Perl_get_sv: referenced symbol not found
Killed

What do you mean by "hook in DBI interface" ? What sort of problems did
you get ?

I have an application currently written in sybperl. I need now use an
Oracle database as well. I tried to just hook in DBI interface with no
luck. Is there a way to do this, or am I going to convert my sybperl to
DBI-DBD?
Thanks,
