Because, in theory, the point here is to tell DBD::Sybase that you want ISO
dates and get ISO dates back without having to invoke any post-selection data
munging.

You point, however, is well taken with respect to Michael's implemenation of the
functionality behind the scenes. In theory, he should consider using an existing
date module. In practice, there may not be a need to drag in a date/time
framework for the logical equivilent of a couple of datepart calls, strung
together.

Either way, as long as is it fast and accurate, I don't really care how it is
implemented.

Supporting standard date formats is good but why does it belong in
DBD::Sybase?  There are already a dozen modules for date conversions.
