i'd install activestate perl 5.6.1 (pretty easy install) and then
use it via cygwin (unix emulation on Windows).

Though...i dunno if these will work on Win98.  They definitly work on
the "server" versions of Windows (aka, WinNT, Win2K).

both of these packages are pretty easy to find.
