Sincere apologies to all.

I have just found out that my colleague copied these images from another dataserver using bcp but without specifying the
-T option, so only the first 32K of each image were copied. I'm also annoyed with myself for not checking this earlier.

Hmm - I just tried your script, with an image that I just loaded, and
I got:

Col (length) = 4
Data (length) = 106068
Total (length) = 106068

Is it possible that the server has some global limits set?

There is a CS_TEXTLIMIT option that can be set at for the connection
that limits the amount of data that can be retrieved for a TEXT/IMAGE
column. It is possible that this value is set globally in libtcl.cfg
or another of the .cfg files in $SYBASE/config or
