Please forgive me if this question has been asked before...

In my perl pgm, how do I trap and act upon error messages generated by 
triggers?
I'm trying to update a value in a record, and the trigger is preventing
the update and returning an error message.

Solaris 2.6
Sybase 11.9.2
This is sybperl, version 2.11
