In that case the problem may be with LD_LIBRARY_PATH. This needs to be 
set *before* the script starts, so you should set it in the http
server startup file if you can (for example, for apache you can add
	SetEnv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/sybase/lib
to httpd.conf)
