Make sure you have a 10.0 version or greater of OpenClient. Previous versions
didn't support numeric. Sybase doesn't bend over backward to keep VMS folks up
to date--sometimes you have to call and ask for the upgrade. (They're never
posted to the online upgrade site. :-( )
