Yes, Malcolm Beattie is working on a Perl compiler, which is currently
in late alpha testing, I think.

I believe that compiling straight perl scripts
works reasonably well, but compiling scripts that use
extension modules such as Sybase::DBlib have certain problems.

I have not used the compiler myself, though.
