Matthew,

I did the same thing a few days ago and had some other problems
in the beginning, but everything is running fine now.

I think you want to make sure the ctlib you downloaded is in
ELF format.  There is a link pointing to get the ELF format
ctlib in www.perl.com, or in one of its links.

Your original CONFIG looks fine. You don't need to add other
things to EXTRA_LIBS.  One more thing you might want to try
is to copy libsybtcl.a to libtcl.a, it happens this method
resovles one of the big problems I encountered in building
sybperl for Linux.
