we hat problems too building sybperl, before we mad an upgrade to the new
release of our linux-distribution. I don't know which parts of linux had
changed, but I think most important is gcc and ld. We use the same gcc
version, but our ld is newer:
GNU ld version 2.8.1 (with BFD 2.8.1)
This works find - at least for a clean perl and sybperl as the only static
extension. So, maybe you should try to upgrade.
