Subject: Installing sybperl-2.0 with perl 5.002
Date: Mar 19 1996 8:35PM

I recently got a copy of perl5.002 and successfully installed it.

Shortly thereafter I received the distribution tar of sybperl2.0.
I untarred it in a separate directory and proceeded to follow the
instructions in the read me.

The perl5.002 software is located in a directory called /appl/perl5.002
at my site so after I edited the CONFIG file to correctly define the
SYBASE variable I did the following within the directory where I
untarred the sybperl2.0 tar:

	 /appl/perl5.002 Makefile.PL

This is what I got in response:

Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good
Error: Unable to locate installed Perl libraries or Perl source code.

It is recommended that you install perl in a standard location before
building extensions. You can say:

    /appl/perl5.002/perl Makefile.PL PERL_SRC=/path/to/perl/source/directory

if you have not yet installed perl but still want to build this
extension now.
(You get this message, because MakeMaker could not find "/appl/perl/lib/sun4-sunos/5.002/CORE/perl.h")

Now sure enough, these files don't exist but my question is why?

I didn't have any trouble with the perl5.002 installation!

Is there a way to generate the files this thing needs?

help...

P.S. I tried doing the following:

	/appl/perl5.002/perl Makefile.PL PERL_SRC=/appl/perl5.002

and I got this:
Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good

Hoever no Makefile was produced!
